PowerOLAP Version 9.0 - Intelligent Performance Management for your business
PowerOLAP® has been
dramatically empowered in
the latest release, Version 9.
The highlight of this release is a
64bit Server Platform. The 64bit
platform removes restrictions on
functionality such as memory
usage and database size,
maximizing your performance and
enabling you to query the largest
data sets with the most complex
multidimensional analytics.
Many PowerOLAP® features have
been optimized to save you time
and energy including the caching and
dependency functions, integration with
MS Analysis Services, as well as save
and load performance for opening and
saving databases. For import and
export functions, limitations have been
eliminated, and the Scheduler and
Tasks routines can now be executed
through Excel. IDS features have
been enhanced to support write back
and to provide clientless access to
PowerOLAP® Data--in both Google and
via Mobile PowerOLAP.
Highlights of Version 9
that clients will love
PowerOLAP and OutlookSoft
PowerOLAP now allows users with
existing investments in OutlookSoft
to easily migrate to PowerOLAP
to perform their consolidation
and planning functions with writeback
capability. PowerOLAP will
deliver a faster, more flexible, more
agile and cost-effective platform,
without any costly ERP upgrades.
PowerOLAP and
Analysis Services
Build robust and dynamic cubes
for budgeting, planning and
forecasting, leveraging the data
that you already have in Analysis
Services. PowerOLAP allows you
to overcome the current write-back
limitations in Analysis Services.
You can now plan for the future, not
just analyze the past. We integrate
using Analysis Services 9.0 Driver,
allowing connection to AS 2000,
2005 and 2008. Integration is
optimized using dynamically written
MDX queries. This offers significant
performance improvements by prequerying
the values from Analysis
Services. No other product does
a better job filling the Planning
gap left with the elimination of
MSAS PerformancePoint.
Scheduler
The Scheduler functionality originally
introduced in V8 has now been
enhanced to fully automate the
kick-off and scheduling of tasks
across ALL applications you are
running given our exposed API.
Scheduler lets you add, edit and
delete tasks for scheduled execution.
Notifications provide feedback
on the execution of tasks. The
task and scheduler routines can
now be executed from Excel.

This gives users a fast, efficient and cost effective report publishing and
distribution platform for free and
powered by the speed and flexibility
of the PowerOLAP solution.
Mobile PowerOLAP
Web access to PowerOLAP gives
users access to reports, budgets,
forecasts on your PDA (including iPhone and Blackberry). Access to
important real-time business data
immediately, when you need it.
Excel Pivot Tables and PowerOLAP
Access to PowerOLAP data via
the web, with Excel Pivot Table
front end, provides a clientless
zero install, zero footprint.
PowerOLAP for Budgeting
and Planning
Many Budgeting and Planning
products on the market today can not
support the simultaneous usage of
hundreds of people in an organization
that need to have real-time access
to their data to get their job done
without significant system performance
issues. IDS now allows thousands
of employees real-time access to
data to perform OLAP manipulations,
without any system performance
issues. Our solutions deliver
faster, more compact aggregate
information than our competitors.

- Integrates easily with Excel’s pivot-table functionality—a favorite of seasoned Excel users.
- Instant access to data via a standard web browser.
- Integration with Analysis Services is more flexible and powerful than ever before.
- Distribute calculation processing between multiple machines.
- Perform “what-if” scenarios without impacting the performance of other users and distribute meta-data changes to remote databases.
- Accumulate metadata changes made by remote users.
- Synchronize fact data changes between cubes with different dimensionality.
Other Features
Internet Data Services (IDS) and IDS Web Server
IDS allows for the widespread deployment of the PowerOLAP solution to multiple, dispersed locations across the Web. The WEB interface provides easy access to PowerOLAP data via a standard WEB browser, taking advantage of PowerOLAP being an HTTP Server. To access the feature, users simply launch a WEB browser and enter the Name or IP Address of the machine running the PowerOLAP MDB server. The IDS feature supports the synchronization of databases over the internet. This includes all data modifications that might be made on either end of the connection. PowerOLAP data in IDS also integrates easily with Excel’s pivot-table functionality—a favorite of many a seasoned Excel user. The PowerOLAP analytical super engine, coupled with the muscle of the new IDS, gives all users freedom and flexibility to use their data at their convenience any time, anywhere. IDS can be used in any combination for the following:
- Distribute calculation processing between multiple machines.
- Perform “what-if” scenarios without impacting the performance of other users.
- Distribute metadata changes to remote databases.
- Accumulate metadata changes made by remote users.
- Synchronize fact data changes between cubes with different dimensionality.
IDS requires the PowerOLAP MDB server with HTTP enabled and that the client license supports IDS. Using IDS involves configuring and executing IDS tasks. The task is saved in the current database and can even be scheduled using the new Scheduler feature.
Scheduler
The Scheduler can Add, Edit, and Delete Tasks for scheduled execution. Also new, Notifications provide feedback based on the execution of jobs. Tasks that can be Scheduled:
- Internet Data Services
- Import Metadata
- Import Fact Data
- Rebuild Cube
- Export Slice
- Transfer Cube
- Export Cube
- Clear Cube
- Windows Script
- Execute SQL via ODBC
- Windows Executable
- Batch File
- Data Transformation Services
- SQL Server Integration Services
Transfer/Export/Clear Cube
The features to transfer, export, and clear cubes have existed since early versions of PowerOLAP. In version 8, we’ve enhanced functionality by extending the available options, simplifying the interface, and allowing users to save configurations as saved tasks. Tasks can be executed directly by any Administrative user or via the scheduling application. You can now add, edit, delete and execute for any of these functions: Transfer Cube, Export Cube and Clear Cube.
Rebuild Cube (Process Cube) - Several enhancements have been made to the processing of OLAP Exchange’s Rebuild Cube feature. First, the Rebuild Cube and Update Cube menus have been merged into a single menu called Process Cube. The Process Cube Dialog now has several new options for rebuilding cubes.
Synchronization Server, like OLAP Exchange, works via an ODBC connection and adds another powerful tool to establish a dynamic relational/multidimensional connection—in this case to leverage an installed relational system for the purpose of synchronizing independent PowerOLAP clients.
Power
OLAP Web Services provides Internet connectivity through a customizable Web browser that enables staff or customers to create unlimited reports and analytical views, including graphs, of data made available to them. Web Services also allows clients to enter figures into Power
OLAP cubes from wherever they can make an Internet connection. Power
OLAP Web Services is truly a means to extend a company's "real-time reach" to virtually anywhere.
